To use the name "Reiki", if you are doing touch healing, you need to receive the necessary Reiki attunements from a qualified teacher who has also done the training.
If you don't receive the Reiki attunements, the energy will not activate fully and though you will be practicing healing it won't be as profoundly powerful as Reiki.
This web site has information on all the different aspects of Reiki, and you can start practicing just from reading. But please look for a Reiki Master and receive a Reiki attunement before you start practicing Reiki professionally or charge treatments.
Now on to the fun stuff!
Reiki is a simple method of natural healing based on the applying Universal Life Force Energy. Reiki literally means
Universal Life Force Energy
The act of laying hands on the body to comfort and relieve pain is as old as instinct. When you are hurt, the first instinctual thing you'll do is to rub or touch that of your body where you are sore. When a child falls and scrapes his knee, he wants his mother to touch it (or kiss it) and make it better.
A mom's instinct when a child is feverish or ill is to put her hands on the baby's forehead.
Our touch conveys warmth, serenity and healing and it tells another being that they are loved and cared for.
This simple act is the basis for all touch healing systems and especially for Reki.
The Reiki Principles
Just for today,
Don't worry, Be Happy.
Don't get mad, Chill Out.
Honour your teachers.
Earn your living Honestly.
Give Thanx to everything.
Respect the Oneness of All
Here's a poem by one of the leaders of the Reiki lineage:
I believe there exists
One Supreme Being
The Absolute Infinite
A Dynamic Force
that governs the world
and universe.
It is an unseen spiritual power
that vibrates
and all other powers
fade into insignificance
beside it.
So therefore it is Absolute!. . . . .
I shall call it reiki . . . .
Being a universal force from the
Great Divine Spirit,
it belongs to all
who seek and desire
to learn the art of healing.
