The starting point for in-depth “deep” keyword research is a single
keyword (the SEED keyword) and in our example we will use the word
ACCOMMODATION.
By typing this into Wordtracker I get up to 2000 keywords built around
the seed keyword. Not all in this list will be relevant to South
Africa so look for clues at to how to use the information presented to
benefit ourselves. Don’t try to exclude too many keywords at this
stage.
Here’s part of such a list…
* 2010 accommodation
* 5 star accommodation
* accommodation association
* accommodation booking
* accommodation close to
* accommodation deals
* accommodation directory
* accommodation finder
* accommodation for rental
* accommodation guide
* accommodation in
* accommodation rentals
* accommodation specials
* accommodation websites
* affordable accommodation
* affordable holiday accommodation
* affordable self catering accommodation
* backpacker accommodation
* backpackers accommodation
* beach accommodation
* beachfront accommodation
* book accommodation
* budget accommodation
* budget holiday accommodation
* chalet accommodation
* cheap accommodation
* cheap motel
* cheap motels
* cheap self catering accommodation
* child friendly accommodation
* corporate accommodation
* dog friendly accommodation
* exclusive accommodation
* family accommodation
* farm accommodation
* find accommodation
* fishing accommodation
* five star accommodation
* forest accommodation
* free accommodation
* furnished accommodation
* group accommodation
* holiday accommodation
* holiday accomodation
* holiday apartments
This list immediately suggests that there are many variations around
the single keyword ACCOMMODATION.
Using the Brain and Experience in Deep Keyword Research…
Misspellings & How do you spell accommodation?
Based upon my own experience in South Africa only about 70% of people
spell accommodation correctly (2 m’s and 2 c’s).
If the keyword list generated only contains the correct spelling then
some 30% of the potential market will possibly be missed. In practice
therefore we have a number of different seed keywords for example:
* Accommodation
* Accomodation (2nd most popular spelling)
* Acommodation
* Acomodation
* Accommadation
* Acommadation
* Acomadation
* Accommidation
It is still a good idea to create content or run adwords campaigns
based upon misspellings although Google is more often recognizing
misspellings and compensates (but only when this suits Google).
As AdWords develops the need to create misspellings will become less.
Google already recognizes many different misspellings and may well
show the ads based upon the correct spelling. At this stage however I
suggest that misspellings should be part of your arsenal.
Once keywords have been discovered categorising them becomes very important.
