Festival of Shamans

A Festival of Shamans

24th - 26th  Feb 2012

The Blue Hippo, Greyton, Western Cape, South Africa

Join us in shape shifting the dream and a transformative week-end of ceremonies, journey work, sacred breath work, sacred dance, fire ceremonies, water blessings, sound journeys, entity removal, plenty drumming, sweat lodges, trading of shamanic goods, movies, sharing meals, heart space, community and sharing of spiritual understanding…

The Vision

Welcome folks. Two years ago, sitting in the hills of St. Tropez, Mikkal and Lyn began talking about a gathering of Shamans in South Africa. They envisaged sharing the wisdom of the Crows Nest community with medicine people in SA. We all want to learn more and share our teachings and understanding of the Shaman’s way of ”Shape-shifting the Dream”. It is time for the ancient and raw energy on the southern tip of Africa to speak. This festival is what has grown out of that notion.

On Offer

Your entrance fee will give you entry into any of the Crow’s Nest workshops and ceremonies that will be taking place throughout the weekend. There may be a small separate charge for our local facilitators who will be presenting too. There will also be a Shaman Village for traders to sell their wares. If you have any teachings, workshops or shaman goods to sell, please contact us, we would love you to share your wears and inspiration. If you would like to assist us by doing some work, please let us know.

Shaman Village

Please let us know if you would like to join the Shaman Village Traders. We would like you to share your wears and wisdom. You are invited to participate if you would like to have a space or circle under a tree to tell stories, do divination or share the wisdom of your walk. If you have shamanic gear (jewelry, clothing, smudge sticks, rattles, drums, herbs, essences, shamanic art) and you would like to trade please contact us at ShamanFestival@gmail for details. There will be a R100 fee for vendors (additional to general entrance fee).

The deadline for these applications is the January 15th, 2011. However, we encourage you to apply early, as we will then be able to include you in our advertising material.

Festival Information

The festival runs from 2:00pm on Friday till Monday morning.
Non-refundable Registration requested by January 15th, 2012

An early bird discount of 10% will be applied to all registrations received by December 10th, 2011

Cancellations can apply the registration fee to subsequent workshops or events.

Entry and Registration

A pass is required for each day that you wish to attend the festival. Daily entry is R600 ($100) per day, except for Friday which R300 ($50). There is a discount for choosing the full plan. Please go to our website registration page to register and for more details.

Sleeping arrangements

There will be the option of tenting available. There will be various fields where tents can be put up. There is also space for the more adventurous to set up their tents wherever they are comfortable (within reason, of course). Tents will be charged at R60 ($10) per person per tent per night. This covers the space for the tent, and not the tent itself. There is an option for those who need tents to rent a tent for R250 ($80).

There is no requirement for anyone to remain at the festival. If you wish, there are many overnight places in Greyton. Click the hyperlink for a number of venues. If necessary, we will organise a shuttle to and from Greyton for those that wish to eat or sleep in this quaint town.

Meals

There will be dinner available on Friday evening. There will also be lunch and dinner offered on Saturday and Sunday. The cost of each of these meals will be R50 ($8). Breakfast will be served on Saturday and Sunday, and the charge will be R35 ($6). We offer a full meal ticket for the 3 days for R300 ($50).
All meals will be vegetarian. Though there will be vegan and other options available if required.

Please respect that this is an alcohol and drug free event.

We look forward to hosting and sharing this wonderful experience with you! Do share this email with your friends.

Tibet at COP17

Dear Media Friends – there are two Tibetan delegates attending COP17 and the following has been received from a delegate who is assisting their cause.  Also they are hosting an event (see attached leaflet) and assistance in promoting this would be appreciated.

“The Tibet delegation is fast learning about the true nature of the UNFCCC, what are the issues at the negotiations, who is who, what are the major groups, etc, and made significant new contacts to include themselves into the larger picture of the Climate Justice Movement.
At the entrance, they got stopped and asked to leave ÜN premises”, because they carried “Tibet”leaflets, that was filmed and photographed by reporters. So far nothing out on the internet. We can be happy that their UN passes haven’t been taken away.
They made significant contacts and build bridges for possible new partnerships with other Indigenous groups, especially from Africa, that are pastoralists (herders), to strengthen their issues such as with the herders in Tibet.
There was a silent protest in front of the UNFCCC main entrance and we are hoping that the media will give us some coverage.
We will have a side event, as per the attached leaflet- about “Tibet and Dams”. – ends
Contacts:   Rebecca Sommer or Tenzin Woebum for an interview on cell  0799079926
please we need your assistance to get some exposure …..  Many thanks, elizabeth

ADDITIONAL SUGGESTIONS FOR CREW MEMBERS:
Please bring your own drinking water if possible, to limit strain on the water storage system. Keep clean by bringing/using camp showers and basins. Provide your own shade in the camping areas.

THE SPIRIT OF DONATIONS:
Youth Dancers and Crew Members are asked to give what their hearts and means can give, beyond what is asked in terms of a pledges and basic requirements. Indeed, any extra donations from dancers and crew are a personal and private matter. You can be assured that donations will go to manifesting the Youth Dance infrastructure and covering running costs. Excess donations will stay with Gogo Nomzimane for Ancestors’ and mission work.

Another’s Vision

People from all cultures all over the world are rebelling against the system.

And it’s mostly non-violently! Yeehah!

From the Arab Spring to Madrid M15 to the Occupy movements to Avaaz to a single demonstration against the South African “Secrecy” Bill, we are becoming increasingly effective-

both physically and virtually- in raising our voice in protest.

SO WHO AMONG YOU ACTUALLY FEELS HEARD by the powers-that-be?

While many people still believe we can change to world with new political policies and protocols or a different president, more and more people are recognising that the ENTIRE GLOBALISING SYSTEM of financial enslavement, unlimited growth economy and political manipulation is at the ROOT of most of the world’s problems* (war, starvation, environmental degradation, poverty, corruption, declining health… you know, that list that makes us want to change the channel.)

Ironically it’s our dissatisfaction (and disgust) that is bringing us closer together.

As we witness the global escalation of movements that are fighting the corporate-political system, it’s REMARKABLE that nearly all of them seem to be focussing on what we DON’T want.

NOW IT”S TIME TO TAKE THESE GROUND-BREAKING ACTIONS TO THE NEXT LEVEL..

Let us switch from criticism to creativity and come up with some tangible alternatives.

Can humanity now UNITE around a positive outlook that focuses on SOLUTIONS??

The tricky thing is that, fundamentally, the corporate-political system and these solutions cannot co-exist.

The System supports, promotes and is dependent on hierarchy, competition, deception, resource exploitation and world domination.

The solutions, on the other hand, support, promote and are dependent on care for the Earth, equality, cooperation, transparency, and local autonomy & resilience.

The evolution of human consciousness recognises our Oneness, our interconnectedness and our interdependence.

The archaic paradigms of our political and economic structures are in direct opposition to our evolution.

For us to truly realise the transformation we seek we have little choice but to collectively invent a completely new system… (Just as we re-invent our personal and cultural paradigms)

Those with wisdom, hope and vision can lead the way towards a global unity that is positive and co-creative.

We have the solutions… to bring the power back to the People, to rebuild local economies and to re-create Eden on Earth. In theory we can put an end to all the to all the world’s problems NOW. The only question is when will we be humble and courageous enough to rise up in unison to reclaim our sovereign freedom, restore the Sanctity of Gaia and exclaim WHAT WE DO WANT!

Our New Earth (ONE) Vision is a solutions-based initiative for global transformation that needs a core of dedicated team members to co-create.

If you’re up for it please sign up at www.one-vision.us

Even if we, the People, don’t take back the United Nations, we can still bring word of the solutions to the world as well as the necessity of a fundamental and radical shift in political priorities if these solutions are to be given the urgent attention they deserve.

The realisation of ONE Vision is entirely in the hands of the People…

*While some believe that the ultimate the root cause of all suffering is in the mind of the perceiver, in the context of our broad-scale cultural dysfunction, me being all shanti isn’t really going to have a significant influence on slowing down the Empire of domination, deception and destruction.

Tick, Tock while Gaia bleeds…

Now is the time to balance Inner work with conscious engagement.

Our New Earth Vision
www.one-vision.us

Humanity has finally reached the crux of an evolutionary crossroads
-an extensive and escalating conflict of interest between the growing populace of
awakening humans and our established governing and economic structures.”

Death in Itsoseng Verdwaal Lichtenburg North West Province South Africa

It read like a story out of Somalia; surely this could not be South Africa, a country with organised central, provincial and local government, no civil war, no clan friction, no famine, a surplus of maize production earlier this year, a diverse media presence, unlimited access to technology, natural resources too numerous to quantify, a resilient economy in spite of the European contagion; could it really be happening here, that four children die from starvation in a country which is the economic powerhouse of the African continent.

Something is seriously wrong; blaming the lack of contraception is adding insult to injury; a distraught mother, an impoverished community, lack of education, lack of opportunity, unemployment, all factors that could lead to a crisis, but certainly not to death given our budget for Social Development and our resources overall.  As a nation we all have failed; our morality, our spirituality, our inner being has to be in turmoil; these are OUR children, in OUR Africa, who died a preventable death in OUR presence.  This is extremely painful but moaning, blaming and complaining equally is counter productive in the absence of an appropriate response.

South Africans have amply manifested their overwhelming spirit of Ubuntu not only for fellow Africans in Somalia right till the present but for so many diverse causes on hundreds of occasions.  Gift of the Givers relief teams with R200 000 of emergency food items are already on their way to the community of Verdwaal, Itsoseng, Lichtenburg, in the North West province.  Food parcels and "wet" feeding may only be handouts but at this moment in time it alleviates hunger, emotional and physical anguish and is life saving. This contribution is only an initial response to be followed up by a substantially larger comprehensive effort determined by the assessment of those initial teams. Collectively, as a nation we need to analyse what comprehensive, relevant sustainable programmes could be identified and implemented to change the lives of these people for the better, permanently.

Gift of the Givers invites South Africans to participate not only in this programme of hunger alleviation in Verdwaal but to build a huge stockpile of non-perishable food items to respond to similar areas, of which many will probably come to light soon, throughout our country. We will accept food items in kind in any quantity as we have warehouses to manage huge quantities of supplies.  Cash contributions to be deposited into Gift of the Givers, Standard Bank, Pietermaritzburg, Account No. 052137228, Branch Code 057525.  Please email or fax deposit slip for us to acknowledge your contribution.  Those requiring tax deductible certificates to email laila@giftofthegivers.org.  For more details on site Allauddin Sayed 0836677179 or call tollfree 0800786911 or www.giftofthegivers.org
