It’s the end of July and winter is biting! Autumn has given up and given in to the cold claws of winter. Trees have been stripped bare. Those trees still carrying leaves shudder and shiver in the icy winter winds. In Gauteng we are privileged to see the sun on more days than not; if you are in the Western Cape you may not see the sun for rain for many days! Grey is the order of the day. My thoughts are with you. There is a way though to still have colour in your life. What are you wearing? Don’t worry – I’m not trying to get personal. It’s just that the colours you surround yourself with can have a marked effect on your psyche. And they affect how others respond to you.
The power of colour is not a figment of the imagination nor is healing with colour a new concept. There is evidence that ancient civilizations appreciated colour and its uses. There are historical records that ancient Egyptians, Indians and Chinese used colour for cures and ailments. Current practices of light and colour therapy may be traced back to the ancient Egyptians who built temples of light and colour for healing. It appears, though, that the Greeks were somewhat more pragmatic about colour and focused on the scientific aspects of colour. In more recent times, Isaac Newton was a pioneer in the study of colour and light. As children, many of us at primary school learned the basic effects of light through a prism. Can you recall the magic of seeing a ray of light penetrate the prism and emerge on the other side in a rainbow of colours? This is what Isaac Newton called the spectrum.
Colour affects us physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, whether we are aware of it or not. So it makes sense then to harness the power of colour to add balance to our lives. The cells in our bodies are made up of light which vibrates to various frequencies and resonates to specific colours. Colour cannot exist without light. Colours have physical attributes and vibrate to different frequencies. To understand that colour can heal, we need to accept that our bodies are dynamic centres of energy, surrounded by energy fields. There are many ways to bring the healing power of colour into our lives. There is a simple but effective way to balance the body with colour. I created a range of coloured oils, which I named the Oils of Transformation as as far back as 2001. These coloured oils echo the colours of our bodies’ energy centres and work at restoring balance to these energy centres.
In the last few years there has been a return to the natural way of doing things. Complementary therapies, like colour therapy, light and sound therapy, are gaining more acceptance and are best used along-side allopathic or western medicine. Both Retailers and Corporates are beginning to understand the impact of colour on their businesses. Retailers are paying much more attention to colour and how and where it is used in their stores to attract customers. Companies realise that changing their employees’ working environment may improve employee well-being and therefore their performance. If you have visited the web site of some paint companies recently, you will find that along with extensive colour ranges, they give advice on the impact of colour and where certain colours are best used.
When we become more conscious of colour and the role it plays in our lives we can appreciate the benefits it brings to all aspects of our lives – physical, mental and spiritual. Colour is a universal language that touches each and every soul. Their magical rays shine into the corners of our deepest emotions bringing them out into the open to be dusted off, healed and released.
So…take another look at yourself. What colours are you wearing today? What does the colour of your day look like? If you want to learn more about colour and understand how you can bring more colour balance to your life, go to www.divine-space.com
