Ecovillage

Wikipedia says that ecovillages are intentional communities who want to be more sustainable. And that ecovillage members are united by a shared ecological, social-economic and cultural-spiritual values. I’ve spent some time at a few eco-villages around South Africa, and I’d love to be involved with more. Some of the one’s I’ve been to are:

Umphakatsi

My ecovillage of choice and the one that I thought that I’ll be living in soon :) I’ve since decided to rather live with my love and make a life together in Hlatikulu, so subscribe to my mailing list and find out when we’re moving there.

Khula Dhamma

At Khula Dhamma Community we find much joy in sharing a harmonious, meaningful and uplifting existence with kindred spirits. We aim to manifest a conscious, supportive and self-sufficient community that celebrates and co-creates with Nature; where all ages and cultures come together to explore the mysteries and possibilities of human spiritual potential. http://www.khuladhamma.org/

Zuvuya

Zuvuya Farm nestles at the foot of a mountain, abundant with streams and waterfalls. Bird life abounds and game returns slowly to the land. Sparkling spring water is piped into our homes, a legacy of the wonderful rain which falls in the summer months, winter days are warm and cloudless, the nights crisp beneath star-spangled skies.  In the Dargle Valley of the Kwazulu Natal Midlands between Howick  and Impendle on 1000 acres of rolling hills, lies a little  piece of heaven. http://www.zuvuya.co.za/

A New We – An Ecovillage Documentary

A New We” is a documentary about ecological communities and ecovillages in Europe. Enjoy two hours of insight into 10 European eco-communities from 8 European countries, created by Austrian documentary filmmaker Stefan Wolf. Stefan’s aim: to explore a variety of ecovillages in order to present a broad spectrum of lifestyle possibilities to many people. http://harounkola.com/new-we/

Please leave a link to your ecovillage here

There are others, but I haven’t spent any time at them, I’d love to though and if you are an ecovillage then please leave a comment with a link to your place :)
