Throughout our lives we keep re-encountering our primary psychological matrix, the blueprint upon which all our experiences are based – our family of origin. We generally begin by denying and rejecting its influence then proceed to “working through it” only to keep discovering it is the prima materia of whom we believe we are. Rather than forever struggling within ourselves we could consider honestly facing and consenting to our reality. We thereby not only open a path for blessings to flow but ironically also allow what can be changed to change.
This relatively new form of psychotherapy works with what Dr. Rupert Sheldrake calls the Morphogenic Field. This is a collective awareness that can be tapped into, to inform towards healing and wholeness. There is a growing awareness that the power for transformation lies not only and not especially in our individual efforts but in aligning with the evolving intelligence that is the field from which we come and to which we return.
Family Constellations is a phenomenological approach and was created by Bert Hellinger. He describes it as inter-generational healing which allows the orders of love to emerge and be received by the family. It focuses on the facts rather than on our interpretations and it creates deep insight and healing into many situations often resistant to or not looked at by conventional psychotherapy.
The methodology used is one of representation of the family members by workshop participants. This quickly reveals the unconscious forces that govern human relationships Рhow we may be entangled in the destiny of another, misplaced loyalties, carrying another’s pain, representing a missing person or simply refusing to see or accept our position in the family. This systemic way of working can successfully address not only relationship difficulties but physical and mental health problems as well. Family Constellations is appropriate for everyone and can be used not only to focus on family members and their relationships, but also symbolically with different issues in our lives.

Workshop Facilitator:
Pam Roux has a PhD in Psychology. She studied at Wits and in the USA, at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology where she was also a mentor for the External Program. She has worked with some of the transpersonal leaders of our time, including Mindell, Pierrakos, Grof, Vaughan, Arrien, Joy, Ram Dass, Leslie Temple-Thurston and Byron Katie. She has facilitated workshops since 1979 and has a private practice in Johannesburg using different transpersonal modalities to facilitate the self-development process.
