With just 222 days to go to the second biggest sporting spectacular in the world, these headlines are making the news.
Our new Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan,¬†has promised a great tournament, stating that next summer’s competition will provide a “uniquely South African” experience…
“Next year, as we invite the world to join us in a great festival of football, we will demonstrate that we can take on a giant project, work to a plan, complete major construction projects, reconfigure city transport systems, and energise a uniquely South African diversity of hospitality arrangements,” Gordhan was quoted as saying on¬†FIFA.com.
Not to be outdone, our very own Oscar winner, Charlize auctioned off a meeting with Madiba without official consent from the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The winner will now be told she cannot meet the global icon but she did end up getting a kiss on the smacker.
And finally as reported elsewhere on this site, detailed Google Maps is now available in South Africa to cater for the hordes of visitors to our shores next year.
“Our goal with Maps is to make information with a geographical dimension available to everyone and to allow users to update the maps and develop on top of them,” ¬†says Stephen Newton, country manager for Google South Africa.
