Join a Worldwide Prayer and Meditation Vigil for the Elephants

Please join us inwardly for a special prayer and meditation vigil for the elephants—the magnificent, gentle giants, guardians of the Earth—on 12/12, Sunday December 12, at 12 noon – 1 pm in your time zone(or for as long as you are able and at a time that works for you that day). Performing a sacred ceremony or chanting a mantra would also be appropriate. Whatever calls to you. The important thing is to focus a positive intention to help the elephants on 12/12.

This is an occasion to celebrate the elephants and pray for their wellbeing.

Elephants are in a time of enormous challenge. The number of African elephants has plummeted from over 10 million in the early 1900s to probably less than about 700,000 today, most of which are in Southern Africa, and there are only about 50,000 Asian elephants alive today. Increasing human encroachment on the elephants’ habitat, culling (killing), and poaching for meat and ivory are the main reasons for the decline in population. Tens of thousands of elephants are killed annually just for the Asian market alone.

The killing must stop, or we will soon find a world without elephants, a tragedy beyond imagination. Yet many governments, such as South Africa’s, continue to cull, and the illegal trading of ivory and meat continues unabated.

Please join the vigil on 12:12 in solidarity with Earth’s remaining elephants, who bless us all with their wise and loving presence in unseen ways, beyond what we can comprehend.
