Kundalini Yoga Retreat: An Introduction to Conscious Living
Led by Laura Bogadi

Tshulu Wilderness Camp, Hamakuya, Limpopo Province
Friday 7th to Monday 10th August, 2009

Join us at Tshulu Wilderness Camp in rural Venda for an introduction
to Kundalini Yoga – as taught by Yogi Bhajan – and devoting three days
to focused conscious living. Centre yourself through yoga and detox
with delicious, wholesome vegetarian food. Achieve personal healing by
connecting with nature, and becoming more aware of your relationship
with yourself, the environment and other living beings.

Based around Kundalini Yoga, the retreat programme will be relaxed,
leaving you plenty of time to rest and draw in the peace of a very
special place.

Dawn will bring warming, healing teas and yoga overlooking the Mutale
River. Don’t worry if you feel unfit, or have never done yoga before,
everyone may learn at their own pace.

The day offers informal presentations and discussions around the
lifestyle of yoga and the yogic philosophy. Or, there are guided and
unguided walks. A qualified guide is available to share his knowledge
of the variety of birds found around the camp on walks and introduce
to the cultural and medicinal value of the flora and Baobab according
to the Venda people.

If you are interested in the Venda culture and the community that runs
Tshulu Trust you can visit a household in a nearby village, meet
community members, and enjoy traditional food. (The mopane worms will
be optional!).

Private therapeutic massage will also be available on request. The
late afternoon brings us back to centre with a second yoga session and
an evening meditation before bed.

At night you may wish to gaze at the camp fire or up into the
extraordinary night sky. However, as the camp is completely off-grid,
and light is largely provided with paraffin lamps, one automatically
tunes into the solar cycle, and it seems natural to go to bed early as
well as wake with the sun.

We hope that you will sleep deeply and restfully in the comfortable
beds (made by the Tshulu metal workers) in pure cotton sheets (made by
the Tshulu sewing cooperative).

Rates:

Accommodation, food, yoga classes and guided walks
R600 per person sharing, per day, for 3 days = R1800 for the retreat.

occupancy.)

Travel Information
Tshulu Camp is situated in the Chieftaincy of Hamakuya on the edge of
Kruger National Park between the Punda Maria and Pafuri Gates. It
takes about 7.5 hours to drive there with a half hour break. The last
30km are on quite bad gravel roads, which are easier to traverse in a
4×4 or high-clearance 2×4. However, it is possible for Tshulu
(tshulu@gmail.com or 072 977 6669) to organise a transit to the camp,
and a safe place for you to leave your car.

About Tshulu Camp
Tshulu Camp is situated on the banks of the Mutale River surrounded by
lebombo ironwood groves, baobabs and mopane woodland. Several
kilometers from the nearest village, the soundscape is dominated by
cowbells, baboon calls, and the rush of rapids as the river spills out
of the deep pools that mark the end of a dramatic gorge.

Accommodation is in spacious screened tents on raised platforms
sleeping up to 6 with en-suite bathrooms and plenty of hot sun-kissed
running water. A well-appointed kitchen opens out onto a central area
for eating and relaxing. Solar power is available to charge cell
phones, cameras and laptops, and provides light in the central area;
otherwise the camp is lit by the moon, stars, fireflies, wind-up
torches and paraffin lamps.

There is no general cell phone coverage at the camp, but there is an
antenna, making it possible for you to connect in one specific place.
This means that you will be able to phone out and arrange for people
to phone you at a specific time, but you will not be contactable all
the times.

About Tshulu Trust

Tshulu Trust is a community-based organisation that evolved from a
group of associated Arts and Heritage, Ecotourism, and Agritourism
projects initiated over the past few years in the rural Hamakuya
community, Mutale Municipality, Vhembe District and Limpopo Province.
These initiatives are designed to achieve broad-based empowerment
through capacity building and job creation in Hamakuya, a national
poverty node and a Limpopo Province priority area.

Hamakuya is in the far north east of Limpopo Province on the border of
the Kruger National Park between the Pafuri and Punda Maria gates. In
the past, as the then ‘homeland’ of Venda, it suffered systematic
under-development. The primary aim of Tshulu Trust is poverty
alleviation by developing eco-tourism and its potential for job
creation. All profits go to the community in the form of salaries,
home-stay fees, and the formation of new projects. Through a central
administration office, the Trust runs its core tourism programme
(Tshulu Camp and Home-Stays) and a number of other micro-enterprises
that support the tourism initiative (catering, baking, building and
maintenance, agriculture, metal and woodwork, and sewing).

Healing Arts.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU THERE!

Two more things. I also have available HEART RULES, the new manual
with companion cd by famous yogi Guru Prem Singh who demystifies the
ingredients of posture in the most benign, understandable and helpful
way. Including companion cd R100. Har Bhajan has a couple hundred clay
stock bricks at R1 each, please contact him direct on 082 888-0019 (i
think we’ve done all the building and keyhole garden features for
now). Finally, all the cds even new titles are still R110, not R120.
Fond regards
Pritam
