The Lonmin mine saga is getting worldwide mainstream media attention. This is what happens in a capitalistic system that derives profit from raping the precious metals from the earth. We, especially in South Africa, need a move away from a resources based economy to something else, I think it should be tourism. That way we can all be trained up to be what South African‘s are renowned for, hosting people and events.
But there’s lots of corrupt money to line the pockets of politicians for mining activity, so don’t expect to see this becoming a serious idea and implementation by government anytime soon
