Solar Cookers

Using the free energy of the sun, Olympus Flower Solar Cookers, offer hope to millions of people around the world, especially in Africa, where firewood is now in extremely short supply, and other methods of cooking, and heating water, are either too expensive or non-existent.

With solar cooking you use the cleanest, most environmentally friendly energy source. Sunbeams are bundled and directed towards the pot by the parabolic reflector. The sunbeams are converted to heat on the surface of a dark pot, and they can heat the pot to 200 degrees Celsius (390 degrees Fahrenheit).

This makes the solar cooker also suitable for baking as in an oven and for frying and deep frying. The reflector has the shape of a paraboloid to concentrate the Sun’s energy efficiently. The deep curvature ensures that adjustment towards the Sun is required only every 20 minutes and that the hot pot is in a safe position.

Solar cookers save the emission of carbon dioxide in regions that are affected by the firewood crisis. You therefore save a large amount of money over the many years they can be used.

I finally used a solar cooker and solar oven at the Rainbow gathering recently, and I can vouch for them. It takes about 10 minutes to boil water on the big parabolic dish, and I’m sure the smaller ones are just as efficient. Check it out, and let your friends know about this great way of cooking
