The Greenside Caf√© is open Tuesday to Sunday from 08h00 to 17h00 and on Friday and Saturdays for dinner (kitchen closes at 21h30). They are located at 34 Gleneagles Road in Greenside. The Greenside Caf√© is the answer to every eat-out vegetarian’s prayers.
Finally consciousness around eating is taking off in South Africa as more people become aware of just how important high energy food is in life. Growing up in an Islamic culture, means I’ll always be exposed to eating meet, but I prefer to have a mostly vegetarian diet, and its amazing to see more restuarants pop up with appetising vegetarian food.
The menu here is substantial and includes dishes like nut bakes and giant wraps made with nori seaweed, grilled veggies sprinkled with nuts on beds of whole grain rice.
There are vegan options for all of the deserts including a fully non-dairy killer hot chocolate.
I’m having my birthday party there on 17 October 2009 and in googling “The Greenside Cafe” (South African search only) I was happy to find that this site was number one, yeehah.
Ranking higher than jhblive’s article gave me a particular pleasure knowing that my choice of WordPress and Thesis theme were a great SEO choice for my post when I was first there. I’m hotlinking some of the pics from them, so I hope they don’t mind so much

I am not a vegan but I do love vegetarian meal and I have a big respect for it. In my place, vegan places have been popping up, like the Greenside Cafe, varied choices for vegans and non-vegans!
Its becoming more popular as consciousness spreads in the coming age of enlightenment!
I totally agree Guru, an undeniable consciousness that is slowly taking over the world. Thru this we take care of our bodies, minds and spirit.
And when we take care of ourselves, we take care of our world!
that you are right, guru. Especially with the environmental crisis, our world needs some TLC
Touching the Earth with gentleness is the only way we can prevent catastrophic earth changes, its like caressing a baby, the gentler the caresses we ease the growing pains
That’s an awesome thought and well put.
The Greenside Café sounds delicious. I would love to come for a visit and try it out someday. Also reading the post sounds like you may have celebrated a birthday recently. Happy Birthday.
In that you are right, let us do our part in protecting the earth. I am enjoying our conversations here Guru, lots of things to comment about.
I enjoy them too. Thanks for your friendship!
Inspired by the Greenside cafe my friend is planing to start his own vegan cafe in California. He is till in the process of gathering recipes and info for a really good and sustainable green cafe.I sent him the link of the Greenside cafe and he loves it.
Yay, thanks so much. Normally the inspiration flows the other way. The west coast of the US seems to be a where the raw food movement is gathering lots of momemtum.
Thanks for sharing
