Jivamukti Yoga is one of nine internationally recognised styles of Hatha Yoga and features five tenets:
- Scripture - study of ancient yogic teachings, including Sanskrit chanting.
- Bhakti:- acknowledgment that God realisation is he goal of all yoga practices
- Ahimsa – a non-violent, compassionate lifestyle which emphasizes ethical vegetarianism and animal rights.
- Nada Yoga – The development of a sound body and mind through deep listening
- Meditation – connecting to that eternal unchanging reality within
Cherryl teachings include flowing asana sequences, Sanskrit chanting, Yogic philosophical teachings, breathing practices, meditation and deep relaxation. Music plays an integral role and each class features a stunning soundtrack ranging from Indian ragas and Beatles, to global trance. Cherryl has recently returned from New York where she completed her 300 hr Jivamukti Teacher Training. She runs the Living Yoga studio in Johannesburg, South Africa.
How To Be Mindful in Your Asana Practice
Mark Joseph will illuminate the fact that one can meditate while doing yoga, in the way it was meant to be done. Your Yoga practice no longer just becomes about looking good on the outside but also about feeling focused, calm and loving on the inside. Mark will also touch on ethics and morality (yamas & niyamas) and how this relates to your mindfulness, your practice and your reality.
Mark’s passion for promoting the ideals of Mindfulness started with his interest in meditation. He traveled to India and Nepal, practiced in various monasteries and on returning to South Africa started teaching meditation. He hosts regular weekend retreats at various retreat facilities like Nan Hua Temple and Emoyeni.
