First Impressions of my time at the Adopting Bitcoin Conference Cape Town 2025

This conference was another eye opening experience for me. While I previously attented as just an attendee and then volunteered at the event, this time I was asked to fill in as Head of Volunteers to take off some of the role of Max and also to help Hermann with logistics of the after convention to devote more time to dealing with the speakers and funders.

So this conference was for me hard work, intensely hard work and I think I took on more responsibility than I could handle and worked to too much of an exacting standard (set by myself) and had a very public freakout at lunch at the wine farm.

That being the lowlight, I can count a multitude of highlights the best of which being a wonderful time meeting many new people and also luminaries in the Bitcoin world.

As the days of the conference and especially the post conference road trip, sharing a lunch table and a casual meal with Frank Corva, developers from Fedimint and representatives from Fedi was just another regular occurance.

Answers to deeply considered questions about how a Lightning Invoice works the way it does or how Bitcoin Ekasi or Witsand could create their own Fedi “node” and could infinitely transact between themselves offline.

Or how BTrust Builders are developing the next generation of Bitcoin developers to create more innovative products like the one that was demonstrated during the conference.
